Services

Alani Digs is a design-led residential landscape practice based in Bethany, Connecticut. I offer landscape design, project-based installation, consultation, and selective long-term garden care. Projects are intentionally scoped and can unfold in phases over time.

Landscape Design & Planning

Design is the foundation of my work.

Clear planning allows for confident decisions about layout, plant selection, phasing, and long-term care before installation begins.

Design services may include:

  • Concept plans for a defined area or broader section of your property
  • Detailed planting plans and plant palettes
  • Phased improvement planning
  • Site-appropriate plant selection based on light, soil, and use

Design work is typically scheduled during the winter months, when there is time to plan carefully for the growing season ahead.

Restoration & Reclaiming Existing Gardens

Many projects begin with gardens that are overgrown, underperforming, or no longer aligned with the homeowner’s goals. Rather than starting from scratch, I often work to refine and re-structure what is already in place.

This may include:

  • Evaluating existing plant material
  • Selective removal or reduction
  • Reworking bed structure and edges
  • Strategic replanting for clarity and balance

Restoration work is approached through design and editing, not demolition.

Planting & Installation

Installation is offered as project-based work, typically following an approved design.

Projects may be completed in one phase or gradually over time depending on season and scope.

Installation may include:

Defined seasonal planting projects.

Plant sourcing and coordination

Bed preparation and planting

Mulching and finishing

Long-Term Garden Care

Garden Maintenance

Long-term garden care supports plant health and steady improvement. This work is plant-focused rather than full-service property maintenance.

Garden care may include:

  • Seasonal maintenance and bed care
  • Pruning and shaping
  • Simple plant replacements
  • Soil and plant health support

I take on a small number of ongoing garden care clients each season, typically connected to design or defined project work.

Consultation & Education

Learn

Not every garden requires a full design engagement. I offer focused, on-site consultations for homeowners who want guidance while continuing to work in their own gardens.

These visits are well suited for:

  • New homeowners learning the conditions of their property
  • Gardeners seeking clarity around plant selection or layout
  • Established gardens that need evaluation or refinement
  • Clients navigating changes in time, mobility, or maintenance capacity

Consultations provide practical recommendations, prioritization, and next steps—whether you plan to implement changes yourself or move toward a larger project later.

How Projects Begin

Most new clients start with a brief on-site visit (approximately 30 minutes). This initial meeting allows us to walk the property, clarify goals, and determine whether we’re a good fit for working together.

From there, work typically moves into one or more defined scopes:

Design Engagement
A more in-depth process that includes a questionnaire, site evaluation, and conversation about long-term goals before a proposal is prepared. Design work establishes the framework for planting and future improvements.

Project-Based Installation
Clearly defined planting or restoration work, often following an approved design. Installation is scoped separately and includes its own estimate and agreement.

Design and installation are treated as distinct phases, each with clear estimates and agreements. This structure keeps expectations transparent and allows work to unfold at an appropriate pace.

Ongoing Garden Care
For maintenance clients, I conduct a short site visit to understand the size and style of the property, budget considerations, goals, and expected weekly or monthly commitment. I also confirm availability and fit before moving forward. An agreement follows outlining how care is structured. Because gardens evolve through the season, maintenance remains flexible and responsive rather than locked into a rigid contract.

Consultation & Guidance
For homeowners seeking focused advice without a larger engagement. These sessions are scheduled separately and may take place on-site or by phone.

Fit

I tend to be a good fit for homeowners who value thoughtful planning and a steady approach to improvement. My work is best suited to properties with established planting areas and clients who prefer to work directly with a solo practitioner.

This may be a good fit if you’re looking for:

  • Clear recommendations before installation
  • Planting that reflects the specific conditions of your site
  • Improvements that unfold gradually over time
  • A collaborative, direct working relationship

My practice is smaller in scale and focused on plant-centered work. It’s not designed for full-service lawn care, large construction projects, or rapid, crew-driven transformations.

If your project requires work outside my scope—such as drainage, grading, irrigation, or hardscape construction—I’m always happy to suggest trusted local professionals.
