the Digs

Alani Digs is a solo, design-led residential landscape practice based in Bethany, Connecticut.

I work directly with homeowners to plan and care for gardens that are thoughtful, site-appropriate, and built to improve over time. My approach begins with observation—understanding how a space functions, how it’s used, and what it’s capable of becoming—before making changes.

Landscape design is the foundation of my work. Clear planning reduces uncertainty, supports better installation decisions, and makes ongoing care more effective. Some projects begin with a single planting area; others unfold in phases over several seasons.

I am CNLA certified and trained in permaculture design and horticulture, with experience in residential gardens, plant sourcing, and long-term maintenance. Because this is a solo practice, clients work directly with the person designing and caring for their landscape. There are no sales teams or rotating crews—just clear communication and consistent follow-through.

My work is best suited to properties with defined planting areas rather than turf-dominated landscapes. I do not provide full-service lawn care, and large construction projects are outside my scope. When needed, I collaborate with trusted local professionals in related trades.

The goal is not rapid transformation. It’s clarity, steady improvement, and gardens that feel settled and well considered.

About Alani

I’ve been gardening since childhood, growing up in a family where vegetables and flowers shared the same beds. In my young adulthood, I worked alongside my mother at a community-supported farm, and I learned early how meaningful well-tended landscapes can be. After working in various fields and living in several different places, I found my way back to horticulture again and again, eventually expanding into landscape design. Gardening has supported both my physical and mental health, and I value creating spaces that offer that same steadiness to others. Outside of work, I’m happiest sharing meals, exploring new places, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.

How I Work

Observe & Plan

Every project begins with understanding the site — light, soil, drainage, existing plants, and how the space is used. Clear planning reduces uncertainty and sets the foundation for successful installation and long-term care.

Design may begin with a single area or develop into a broader framework over time.

Implement Thoughtfully

Planting and installation follow the design, whether completed in one phase or gradually. Work is intentionally scoped and paced to support plant health, site conditions, and realistic timelines.

Careful preparation and appropriate plant selection are central to the process.

Care & Adjust

Gardens evolve. Ongoing care, seasonal adjustments, and occasional refinements help landscapes settle and improve over time.

Some clients continue with long-term care; others return periodically as their property develops. The goal is steady improvement, not rushed change.
